The Value of Maximo Certifications and Proven Paths to Certification Success
Is Pursuing Maximo Certification Worthwhile? The answer varies depending on who you ask. From Interloc Solutions’ culture and my personal perspective, Maximo certifications hold significant value. Whether you are a newcomer to Maximo or an experienced consultant, the journey towards Maximo certification not only reveals your depth of knowledge, but also propels you towards expanding your professional expertise. Acquiring Maximo certification(s) brings advantages to the individual and the employing organization, especially if it is a solution provider, like Interloc, committed to delivering high-quality services to clients. I've joined the ranks of 23 other Interloc team members in acquiring Maximo Application Suite (MAS) Manage certification(s), motivated in part by Interloc's strong encouragement for pursuing such certifications. With each major release of Maximo (now Manage), IBM introduces a new set of certifications having two MAS Manage related certification opportunities.
IBM's Training site has streamlined the accessibility of educational materials to equip you with knowledge, making it more convenient than ever with more training material than ever. This educational platform provides diverse online courses spanning various subject areas and difficulty levels (basic/foundational, intermediate and advanced), enabling you to track your progress, assess your knowledge, and earn digital 'badges' at course completions. You can track your progress to complete an advanced level badge which can take many hours to complete.
Another appealing aspect of these online courses is that a significant number of them are available free of charge and allow for self-paced learning. However, there are also more comprehensive courses available that provide instructor-led sessions, albeit at an associated cost. IBM's Digital Badge Program acknowledges talent with secure and verifiable digital credentials that signify skills, achievements, and contributions. Utilizing Credly you can publish and share your well-earned Digital Badges. Credly empowers organizations to formally recognize individuals for their demonstrated competencies and skills. Collaborating with partners like IBM, Credly contributes to establishing a standardized measure of knowledge and skills in the global marketplace.
Credly not only acknowledges digital badges but also generates, distributes, and oversees other digital credentials to acknowledge various accomplishments such as certifications. While obtaining an IBM certification involves a more intricate process and incurs associated costs, the benefits of certification far surpass the expenses incurred.
Once your profiles are synchronized, IBM Training, Credly, and Pearson Vue seamlessly integrate and collaborate with each other.
A proven best practice process to prepare for your certification involves the following steps:
Progress through IBM badges at no cost to familiarize yourself with the certification content.
- Take one or more basic/foundational level badges
- Progress to intermediate level badges
- If available, take an advanced level badge
Gather pertinent information about your certification exam.
- Understand the exam objectives
- Take a low-cost assessment exam to identify areas that require further study
- Gain access to a MAS demo environment and focus on specific areas outlined in the exam objectives based on the results of your assessment exam
The approach I followed and advocate for obtaining the IBM Certified Deployment Professional - Maximo Manage v8.0 Implementation certification is outlined in the table below. It's worth noting that I also hold the IBM Certified Infrastructure Deployment Professional - Maximo Asset Management V7.6 certification, which provides a helpful foundation for the v8.0 certification exam. It's important to recognize that this exam stream emphasizes functional proficiency rather than technical expertise.

Here is my recommended route for acquiring the IBM Certified Administrator - Maximo Manage v8.x certification. Having the IBM Certified Infrastructure Deployment Professional - Maximo Asset Management V7.6 helped for the v8.0 version of the certification exam. This exam leans more towards technical aspects rather than functional ones.
